It's eight o'clock at night and you had plans on working out. The television is on. Federal agent Jack Bauer is dealing with another problem during one of his long days on the television show '24'. Workout...Kiefer...workout...Kiefer. You just caved in and are now parked in front of the tube watching another hour in the life of a fictional character.

Six o'clock at night and traffic is backed up. You were going to go home and eat a healthy meal of measured out chicken, rice, and carrots. The weather sucks and your walk has been canceled.

Does any of this sound familiar? Well, if it does, then you're playing the excuse game. You're using an excuse to keep from starting that weight loss regimen that you wanted. If you were serious about losing those few extra pounds, you might as well forget it. At least until you can stop making excuses and get your butt in gear and get motivated.

This is the biggest obstacle for anyone to face when they have good intentions about dieting and losing weight. While we all want to lose weight, human nature makes us notorious procrastinators. We will do everything we can to say, 'I'll start tomorrow' or 'I'll get to it tonight'. Instead, we need to be just biting the bullet now and get going.

Once we stop making excuses, we find our motivation. It's just like quitting smoking. We have to take that first step and throw the cigarettes away. The same applies here. Once we stop procrastinating and take that hard first step, everything becomes a lot easier.

Stepping into the gym and attending that first aerobics class is the motivation you need. Once you get into class and start jazzercising, you'll find how much fun it really is and then you'll start to look forward to the class. You will have found the motivation you needed to get started on the path towards losing weight.

The same goes for eating healthier. After you get the first few days of healthy food under your belt, you'll find the cravings for all the things you shouldn't eat start to dwindle. In addition, once you start to see the weight coming off and you're looking better, you will have found your motivation. I encourage you to stop making excuses and start losing weight and feeling better all around.

Weight Loss During Menopause  E-mail

Weight loss during menopause is slightly different than just plain ol' weight loss. Because your hormones are going kinda crazy, you need to address that to maximize your weight loss. Here are a couple ways to accelerate your weight loss during this time.

1. Spinning Around like a child

Listen, your hormones are going crazy and they're unbalanced. Spinning addresses this because it stimulates your Endocrine System to balance out and stabilize your hormones. Now, spinning won't totally rework mother nature with menopause, but it'll help with weight loss at this point in your life since the more balance your hormones are, the easier it is to lose weight.

Here's what you do...

Spin clockwise with your arms out like airplane wings. Spin anywhere from 5-20 times. Your goal is to get slightly dizzy, not totally "fall down" dizzy. Once you spin and find that number where you're slightly dizzy, you'll need to spin that number mulitple times each day to help "rework" and correct your hormones throughout the day to clear the path for easier weight loss.

2. Jump on a mini-trampoline

This is just an all-around great exercise. I like the fact that it's convenient, you can do it at home, you can do it in brief spurts of time, and it's very low impact. What I do is jump on it 2 minutes at a time during commercials. Did you know that the average 1 hour tv show has 20-22 minutes of commercials?

That's the perfect time do jump on the mini-trampoline. You'll get a 20 minute workout while watching tv.

1. Walking on an incline

Listen, walking is a boring tip... yes I know that, however walking on an incline is totally different from just your regular walking on a flat surface. Walking on a flat surface is fine for slow, long term weight loss, but if you want some quick weight loss, try walking on a 10-15 degree incline (treadmill or hill) for 15-20 minutes a day.

This creates a big oxygen deficit which forces your body to suck up body fat... while it tones your legs in ways you never imagined.

2. Hindu Squats

Hindu squats also create a big oxygen deficit which causes your body to eat up body fat. But it also tones your legs like crazy. What you do is squat up and down as fast as you can while you touch your finger tips to the ground during each repetition (this is to make sure you're going down far enough).

You need to do 100 repetitions in less than 5 minutes. Do this as many days each week as you can.

3. Jumping rope

It's pretty well known that boxers are in incredible shape. It's no coincidence that they jump a lot of rope. Now, you don't need to get fancy, just spend 5 minutes a day jumping rope (it doesn't have to be all 5 minutes at once either).

What I did with these 3 exercises is try to create a simple program that you can do mostly in your home without having to waste time going to the gym everyday. You can lose 2-2.5 pounds a month for 2-3 months just using this tip alone. It's so mindlessly easy, I can't figure out why more people don't do it.

The best way to do this is to eat the apple as snacks between meals, but eating them right before meals helps also since it crowds out some of your meal's calories.
